ROCKWOOL: The right climate data for
the right decisions - from EPD to project

“Clear and accessible climate data makes it easier to make the right choice - for the project, for the climate, and for the business.”

The growing demand for accurate and easily accessible climate data has altered the landscape for material manufacturers. Today, both customers and design teams expect to be able to quickly compare products and understand their climate impact without having to interpret extensive documents or manually recalculate data.
For ROCKWOOL, Prodikt became a natural part of this development by making their product information digital, accessible, and directly usable in their customers’ dayto-day work.

ROCKWOOL: Sustainability is the foundation of our business idea

ROCKWOOL is the world’s largest producer of stone wool insulation and has, for decades, driven the development toward safer, more energy-efficient, and more sustainable buildings. The company’s philosophy is simple: every product should contribute to reduced climate impact, improved energy performance, and a safer indoor environment.

The work starts in ROCKWOOL’s own production. All Nordic factories operate on fossil-free fuels in the form of renewable electricity and biogas, and through the Rockcycle® recycling service, stone wool is circulated back into new products.

“Sustainability is the foundation of our business idea,” explains Jenny Kvarnlöf, Communications Manager at ROCKWOOL AB. “We work long-term to reduce our climate impact while also contributing to a more resource-efficient construction industry.”

We interviewed Jenny Kvarnlöf, Communications Manager at ROCKWOOL AB, and Simon Titusson, Technical Specialist, to understand how ROCKWOOL approaches sustainability, why digital and verified climate data have become a key issue, and what role Prodikt plays in meeting the industry’s growing demands.

Sustainability as a driving force for the future of the construction industry

For ROCKWOOL, sustainability is the foundation of the entire business - from product development and manufacturing to collaborations with customers and partners. ROCKWOOL sees sustainability and profitability as closely linked.

“In the future, profitability and sustainability will be one and the same. In the short term, companies can compete on price, but in the long term, sustainability work is a matter of survival,” says Jenny.

As regulations tighten and more projects pursue environmental certifications, the requirements in tenders are increasing. For ROCKWOOL, this is a positive development that pushes the industry toward higher quality, greater transparency, and better climate benefits.

“When sustainability pays off, the transition accelerates,” Jenny notes. An important part of this work is engaging suppliers and partners through greater transparency

“By being transparent with our data, we want to drive demand for climate-smart choices it benefits both the industry and our long-term competitiveness,” she continues. At the same time, digitalization is playing an increasingly important role. Climate data needs to be available in multiple systems, models, and design environments and this is where ROCKWOOL sees great potential.

“If we can get our product data into BIM models, it makes it easier both to
understand and to use our sustainable solutions, ”
says Simon.
The ability to integrate digital product data into the industry’s tools creates completely new advantages for customers’ workflows.
Going forward, requirements for transparency and verifiability are expected to keep increasing through digital product passports, climate declarations, and stricter traceability requirements.

“More easily accessible and verifiable data will become a basic requirement. The industry is moving quickly toward greater transparency, and we want to help lead that development.”

Prodikt: a tool that creates clarity and value

ROCKWOOL’s first contact with Prodikt was at an industry trade fair, where the user-friendly interface immediately caught their interest.

“We quickly realized that our entire sales organization would benefit from Prodikt, especially when it comes to smooth comparisons between similar products from different manufacturers,” says Simon.

Working directly with EPDs is both complex and time-consuming. It requires knowing which data to use, how to scale it, and how to compare the climate impact of different products. This is where Prodikt became a clear simplification. Simon explains: “Prodikt helps extract the most important information from the EPDs and presents it in a clear and easy-to-understand way.”

Having an independent third party present the climate data is also seen as a quality mark - both internally and in dialogue with customers.

An investment that has paid of

Getting all products into Prodikt required time upfront, but ROCKWOOL deliberately chose to do the work thoroughly to maximize the benefits.
“We’ve invested quite a bit of time in the tool, but we get that investment back every single day”.

“Today, both our sales team and our customers can find the information they need themselves - quickly and reliably. The support Prodikt provided
during the start-up phase is also highlighted as an important success factor,”
says Simon.

With clear and verifiable climate data, project teams can easily select and compare ROCKWOOL insulation solutions in Prodikt.

Internal impact - a new way of working

The collaboration with Prodikt has changed the way ROCKWOOL works internally, especially within sales, marketing, and sustainability. When product data is available digitally in Prodikt, it becomes easier for customers to create climate declarations and compare products in a transparent way.

“We can clearly demonstrate the difference in climate impact between our products and comparable alternatives, and that’s why Prodikt has become an important part of our toolbox,” says Simon.
For the sales organization, Prodikt has meant a clear shift.

“Our salespeople can reliably present up-to-date climate data directly from Prodikt as a third-party verified source. They can also show how the project’s climate impact changes by simply ‘dragging in and out’ comparable products - a way of working that makes the dialogue more consultative already in the early stages,” Jenny adds.

“We can clearly demonstrate the difference in climate impact between our products and comparable alternatives, and therefore Prodikt has become an important part of our toolbox.”

Market response

The reactions from customers and partners have been consistently positive. Many who have tried Prodikt continue to use the platform - a clear sign of the value it creates.
“Prodikt makes data accessible, verifiable, and easy to compare - our customers really appreciate that,” says Simon.

For design teams and contractors, the ability to quickly see differences in climate impact is a major advantage. The fact that climate declarations can also be created directly in Prodikt is seen as a clear bonus.

A partnership for the future

Going forward, ROCKWOOL believes that the demands for digital, accurate, and traceable product data will only continue to increase.

“The need to have climate data in digital form will increase, and with Prodikt we’re ready,” Simon and Jenny conclude.

Together with Prodikt, ROCKWOOL is well equipped for a more transparent andclimate-smart future.
