Almendalen 2024

How Can We Build Sustainably — For Real?

During Almedalen Week 2024, Prodikt and PropTech Sweden hosted a panel discussion that tackled one of the construction sector’s biggest challenges head-on: How can we make sustainability a reality — without compromising efficiency or losing business value?

The panel, titled “How can a Sustainable Construction process be streamlined through continuous data flows?”, brought together some of Sweden’s most influential sustainability leaders, technology executives, and construction professionals. Moderated by Carsten Svensson from Prodikt, the discussion was recorded using AI-powered cameras.

The Panel – Voices from the Industry

Participants included:

  • Carsten Svensson, Moderator, Prodikt
  • Rasmus Ekberg, CCO, BIMobject
  • Andreas Holmgren, Head of Sustainability, Treano Bygg
  • Linda Kjällén, Sustainability Manager, CBRE Sverige
  • Jenny Larsson, då VD, Schneider Electric Sweden – numera Bilfinger Nordic
  • Alexandra Rosenqvist, Miljö- & Hållbarhetschef, Beijer Byggmaterial
  • Hanna Hallin, Head of Sustainability, Saint-Gobain Distribution Sweden

What Is the Biggest Sustainability Challenge Right Now?

The panel agreed: sustainability in construction is no longer about ambition — it's about access to the right data and the ability to use it effectively.

  • ”We need to make the complex simple.” – Alexandra Rosenqvist
  • ”I spend most of my time chasing data.” – Linda Kjällén
  • ”Sustainability has become technical and inaccessible — we need to make it understandable.” – Rasmus Ekberg
  • ”Over 90% of our climate footprint comes from the products we sell — that’s where we have to start.” – Hanna Hallin

The real challenge isn’t a lack of intent, but a lack of structured data flows, collaboration, and standardization.

The Solution? Real-World Use Cases

Several clear and inspiring examples emerged from the discussion:

  • Beijer Byggmaterial has integrated climate data directly into its e-commerce platform, allowing customers to see the climate impact of their shopping carts in real time, powered by Prodikt.
  • Saint-Gobain introduced climate calculations for all quotes above a certain amount over two years ago — a key step toward data-driven decision-making.
  • Treano Bygg is helping developers cut emissions by 25% — without increasing costs.
  • CBRE Sweden is integrating sustainability data into its property valuations — redefining how value is assessed.
  • Prodikt is used as a climate calculation tool across several of these initiatives, enabling continuous, actionable data flows that push sustainability work forward.
